What is it about PGA National that makes it such an interesting place to live? Perhaps because it is part of such a grand idea, the success of which has surpassed even the vision of its original developer. The history of PGA National is a colorful, only-in-America tale. And when you buy real estate for sale in PGA National, you become part of the PGA story. Let the real estate experts (and golf experts!) of Frankel Realty Group show you around the hustle and bustle of this great community so you can find a home for sale in PGA National that is everything you’ve been looking for, and more.
Homes in PGA National are on an expansive stretch of land, covering some 2,340 acres west of the Florida Turnpike. Back in 1977 when this golf course community was conceived by its developer, E. Llwyd Ecclestone fils, such properties were rare, and the area was considered too far west to build a viable community there. But over the years, people could not ignore the fantastic opportunities the location afforded, and very soon, estate homes, condos, golf villas, patio homes and single family homes were built in PGA National, and quickly sold in what would eventually resemble a city within the city of Palm Beach Gardens. Today, more than 10,000 people call PGA National home, and live the good life in some 5,000 residences. At the winter season, as many as 18,000 people reside on the property.
Much as you’ll find in a little city, there are 44 distinct and lovely neighborhoods within PGA National from which you can select your new place to call home. You’ll find everything here from estate homes of more than 7,000 square feet of living space and as many as seven bedrooms and baths; to cute and compact condos and townhomes of 1,200 square feet, two bedrooms and two baths. Prices run from approximately $1.2 million for the luxury estate homes to the mid-$100,000 for some of the condos. Of course, every price point in between is represented. Membership into PGA National is not required to live here, but for those who purchase the equity position, extraordinary opportunities for socializing, dining, and recreating are yours to enjoy.
PGA National members may partake of golf on five championship golf courses, all designed by the greats of the game, and all considered to be among the world’s best. Then there is the PGA National Golf Academy, an internationally renowned golf school that integrates the mental, physical and technical aspects of the game into one unique instructional program that will help you take your game to another level. You’ll also have access to the 33,000 square foot Health and Racquet Center with 19 lighted Har-Tru tennis courts and an exercise mecca that includes top of the line equipment, classes and personal training. Steam rooms and saunas are found here, as are three racquetball courts and a lap pool.
Everyone is invited to drink and dine in the nine restaurants, lounges, grilles and bars within PGA National. Don’t miss Ironwood Steak & Seafood — it’s a Palm Beach Gardens favorite destination. You may also visit one of the first spas to make an appearance in Palm Beach County, the Spa at PGA National. Book a service or two here and you’ll be counting the days until your next visit! Be sure to make it to the Waters of the World mineral pools and enjoy their gourmet spa cuisine. It’s a little bit of the Mediterranean right in your own backyard.
PGA National is also the venue for the PGA National Resort and Spa, a great spot for a luxurious golf vacation that is visited and enjoyed by guests from all over the world. The resort hosts a sparkling 339-room hotel featuring specialty suites, and is justifiably proud of its AAA Four Diamond status. On-property there are four restaurants, three lounges, meeting rooms, a convention center and a pro shop.
A mini-city like this needs to make a commitment to the environment, and has done so with its designation as a Florida Green Lodging Partner, resort-wide recycling, and programs promoting water conservation, clean air and efficient use of energy. That’s why throughout this lovely community more than 800 acres feature green spaces, parks, lakes, golf course fairways, and other natural settings where residents can jog, bike, walk and quietly observe nature. If you come here, make it a point to check out the 240-acre preserve that serves as home for native birds and wildlife, and the observation pavilion. You may never want to leave!
One of the reasons residents purchase real estate for sale in PGA National is its location. The wonderful city of Palm Beach Gardens makes it one of the most popular places to live in Palm Beach County, with its offerings of good schools, a plethora of city amenities such as shopping, dining and entertainment, and proximity to Palm Beach County Airport. Live here and have access in minutes to the open waters of the Atlantic and all its sporting attractions and diversions. You are also minutes from I-95 and the Florida Turnpike for regional trips and getaways. In short, Palm Beach Gardens spells convenience plus a high quality of life for its lucky residents.
Not bad for a piece of land that was once said to be in the middle of nowhere. Believe it or not, the idea for the Professional Golfers Association came about in New York City, where department store magnates back in 1916 thought it would be a good way to sell golf merchandise! And so the PGA was born, moved to Chicago, and by 1956 had been relocated to Dunedin, Florida near Tampa. But it wouldn’t stay there. In 1962 it became apparent that the American hub of the golf business was going to be on Florida’s east coast. Philanthropist and financier John D. MacArthur (who conceived and built the city of Palm Beach Gardens from his massive land holdings in the area) had heard the PGA was going to move, and to entice the burgeoning organization to Palm Beach Gardens, donated more than $2,000,000 to the relocation project. The PGA sold its Dunedin land.
By 1965 the PGA’s new clubhouse was completed, and its move to Palm Beach Gardens was official. The PGA would reside on land owned by MacArthur through the 1970s, until it asked noted Palm Beach developer E. Llwyd Ecclestone, Jr. to find the organization a new place to house its expanding offices and growing number of golf tournaments. Ecclestone purchased 2,300 acres west of the Florida Turnpike for the project, acquiring it from – you guessed it — John D. MacArthur, adding golf residences and resort amenities to the mix. And so in 1981 PGA National was born, and the PGA found a permanent home. And now so can you! Call Frankel Realty Group today to become part of the PGA National community. Purchase a home for sale in PGA National, be part of PGA history, and then make your own story happen.
